Perspective of an Industrial Hygienist Related to Mold and Indoor Air Quality Investigations for Remediation with Prevention Strategies

Garden Terrace

Speaker: Jan Koehn, M.S., CIH, President of JK, Inc.

This presentation will explore strategies for the quantitative assessment of chemical hazards that are anticipated during emergency situations for the purpose of determining human health risks. Real-time air monitoring instrumentation and integrated air sampling methodologies will be discussed along with predictive air dispersion modeling capabilities. A brief review of the applicable exposure guidelines and standards will be presented as the basis for PPE selection and regulatory compliance. Actual experiences of an Industrial Hygienist and Chemical Engineer responding to multiple emergency situations to assess human health risks will be shared. The presenters will describe aspects of hazard recognition, evaluation, and control during an emergency response. The professional instructors will examine the types of resources called on by the industry sector to assess human health risks during an emergency response (internal resources, third-party response management, regulator interaction, emergency drills) and the site contingency programs.
