Best in Class Safety Performance on Industrial Demolition and Environmental Projects

Expo A3

Speaker: Mike Mitchum, Facility Closure/Asset Recovery Leader, AECOM Technical Services

Everything built will eventually come down at some time or another. While there are many schools that teach people how to build things, there are no institutions that teach workers to safely take them down. Many times accurate drawings are not available; the structural integrity of items taken down is unknown; trapped product in piping and equipment is a possibility; hazardous materials such as asbestos, NORM, lead based paint and PCB's are a way of life; sometime controlled drops are the norm and not the exception; specialized equipment such as hydraulic shears resembling dinosaurs require specialized procedures. This presentation will highlight best practices in removing idled units and facilities in a safe, economical and environmentally friendly manner. It will educate owners on how to set up projects for EHS success from planning to completion.
