"Adapting Safety Tools to Fit Your Culture: Lessons from the Field"
ABOUT JOHN
John has over 40 years of experience in the Petrochemical industry as a process operator (started at 18 years old), progressed to Shipping Coordinator, Shift Supervisor, Safety Supervisor (traditional), Unit Supervisor and Senior Production Supervisor.
During that time, he was introduced to and trained by one of the pioneers of Behavioral Based Safety, which led to me becoming a Behavioral Based Safety Observer, Observer Trainer, Site Facilitator, part time BBS Consultant, as well as a Safety Keynote Speaker at numerous safety conferences both in the US and abroad. I currently hold the position of Production Superintendent at the Southern Ionics Lake Charles facility. He’s an active member on the LCA H&S and Environmental Action committees and the local LAIA versions of both.
Over the course of his career, he varied experiences have provided him with the tools, resources, and opportunities to utilize his leadership skills and insight to successfully lead production teams of diverse sizes in a safe and efficient manner while reinforcing well established safety principles along with continued improvement. It has also allowed him to instruct others, at various levels within different organizations, on the essential characteristics needed to be an effective safety leader/steward, motivator, and role model.
John has been married for over 30 years with two adult children and four grandchildren.
