Solving Water Challenges by Collaborating on Leveraging Sustainability

Edwin Pinero, Director, Water Programs, US Business Council for Sustainable Development

Floral A2

This session will showcase the United States Business Council for Sustainable Development’s Louisiana Water Synergy Platform (LWSP) where companies solve regional water challenges together by leveraging sustainable solutions.  Participants have come to realize that leveraging sustainability means making it part of their organizations’ strategies and processes.  Furthermore, to be effective, sustainability must be fully integrated into their management systems such that the drivers and benefits can be fully captured, quantified, related to company goals, and where appropriate, monetized. Sustainable practices can help achieve Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) goals, as well as help mitigate risks, improve efficiency (- hence profitability) - and in some cases, actually generate revenue.   Collaboration with peers from other companies makes implementation of sustainable practices more efficient, and in some cases reduces the cost of pursuing sustainability. Examples of some LWSP projects will be highlighted.
