Industry trends indicate that while Injury & Illness data has drastically decreased over the past 30 years in the refining and petrochemical industries, severe injuries and fatalities have not shown the same correlation. This data has prompted the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) and the AFPM Safety & Health Committee to create a data collection tool that goes beyond traditional TRIR and OSHA 300 data. This Matrix categorizes actual incidence, as well as high potential/near miss incidence to identify and target the specific problem areas across Industry.
AFPM has collected data for the 2016, 2017, and 2018 years from over 25-member companies. The program provides a blinded, aggregated report that helps to create a benchmark to identify areas of interest for site, company, and industry to focus resources on.
