Refrigerant Rule Revisions: Is Your Facility Prepared?

The presentation will cover recent amendments to the Montreal Protocol and EPA refrigerant management regulations and their potential impact to refrigerant compliance programs. The revised international treaty expands its focus from ozone depleting substances (ODS) to greenhouse gases through a phase out schedule for hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), which are some of the most commonly used refrigerants. The EPA has already disapproved of the use of certain HFCs in specific end-uses and overhauled the refrigerant management regulations within 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F. The Subpart F revisions include extending the requirements to cover non-ODS substitutes, modifying appliance disposal requirements, lowering leak repair thresholds, and adding numerous recordkeeping requirements with phased compliance deadlines of 1/1/2017, 1/1/2018, and 1/1/2019.
