Caribbean Petroleum VCE Incident

On October 23, 2008, Caribbean Petroleum suffered a vapor cloud explosion (VCE) incident in its Bayamon, Puerto Rico refinery. The incident occurred during offloading of gasoline from a ship at a nearby dock into Caribbean Petroleum storage tanks. One of the tanks was overfilled, and a cloud of gasoline vapors and mist developed. The presentation will focus on the cause of the fuel release and formation of the flammable vapor cloud. The presentation will also address the role of vegetation in the development of the VCE.
