Wearable Technology: Your Guide to Safety and Health Leading Indicators

Dr. Anthony Harris, VP Onsite Clinical Operations, WorkCare, Inc.

Expo A2

OSHA recently announced an increased focus on the use of leading indicators to improve workplace safety and health outcomes. An occupational medicine physician will explain how to use wearable technology as a tool for the development and use of leading indicators by allowing trained observers to objectively measure and record physiological responses to job-specific tasks and analyze findings based on clinical algorithms. Collected data can be used by EH&S professionals to develop preventive interventions for individual workers and modify job functions or work processes to reduce musculoskeletal injury exposure risk across an enterprise - without having to depend on observations or assumptions. This approach can be integrated with other total worker health strategies that take into account leading and lagging indicators, as well as multi-disciplinary aspects of employee protection (safety) and health promotion.
